Suesca Colombia

How to Get to Suesca

Reaching Suesca is a breeze. Just hop on a bus from Bogotá’s Portal Norte and get off at the “Suesca beach” near Sesquilé, about 8 kilometers from the Nemocón mines. Don’t hesitate to ask the drivers at Portal Norte for directions – they’re always ready to help. Tell the bus driver you’re heading to Suesca, and they’ll make sure you get off at the right stop. While you can also drive there, I find the bus journey more comfortable, economical, and hassle-free!

The Rocks of Suesca

Just 3 kilometers from the “beach,” you’ll find the breathtaking Rocks of Suesca, nestled in a valley offering stunning landscapes. This area is a hub for outdoor activities and quality accommodations. Whether you’re into bike rentals, caving, or even night walks, Suesca has it all. But the real highlights are hiking, mountaineering, and especially rock climbing.

Tourist Plans in Suesca

The Suesca cliffs, soaring up to 150 meters, are internationally known, especially since Bogotá’s climber Erwin Kraus opened the first route in 1938. Today, with over 400 climbing routes, Suesca is a hotspot for renowned climbers. Let me walk you through some of the must-do activities here.

The Bird Rock

The famous “Bird Rock,” a tribute to Suesca’s 400th anniversary, is easily accessible from the nearby parking area. Hiking up the adjacent hill provides a breathtaking view of the town and the valley. Follow the trail, and you’ll end up at the old Suesca train track, a perfect route to circle back to the starting point.

️ The Suesca Lagoon

About 10 kilometers away lies the majestic Suesca Lagoon, a natural wonder of breathtaking beauty. This sacred site for the Chibchas is now a popular spot for sport fishing, surrounded by pine, oak, and acacia forests – an ideal setting for a day in nature.
