The History
Bought for just 2,500 pesos in 1820, this estate became the cherished residence of the Liberator, Simón Bolívar, in 1821. Here, he added a Prussian-style chimney, a French dining room, and more. After Bolívar’s passing, it transformed through various roles until the Colombian Government restored it.
Exploring the Quinta
The Stove Room
A cozy retreat for Bolívar during Bogotá’s chilly days, this room also witnessed the drafting of the Bolivarian Constitution.
The Kitchen
Bolívar’s love for simple food like arepas and legumes is well-known, and he often indulged in salad-making himself.
The Dining Room
Hosting grand celebrations, this room is adorned with pieces acquired in the early 20th century and belongings of Bolívar himself.
Manuelita Sáenz’s Room
A tribute to Bolívar’s lover and an important figure in the independence movement, although little remains here due to historical events.
José Palacios’s Room
Adjacent to the kitchen, this room belonged to Bolívar’s loyal servant, José Palacios, who vowed to serve him till his last breath.
Simón Bolívar’s Bedroom
A simple, modest room with a surprisingly small bed, featuring a mysterious chest and one of Bolívar’s swords.
